The Dos Capèl Geological Path
The Dolomitic area offers a wide variety of landscapes and geological phenomena 
that are unique in the world and have been studied since 1800 by scientists from all over Europe.
From deserts to tropical islands, from volcanoes to marine depths, evidences of these ancient environments have been preserved in the Dolomite rocks until today. The DOSS CAPEL Geological Path, a real museum in the open air, is the ideal itinerary to discover the extraordinary traces of the past.
The route stretches through a highly fascinating landscape with wonderful views of some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Alps, such as the Latemar, the Marmolada, the Pale di San Martino and the Lagorai chain, and further north the snow-covered peaks of Tyrolean mountains.
The itinerary is marked with several explanatory tables which will help you, along with a little power of observation, learn to read the rocks as if they were books.
You will see beaches and seabeds, shells and starfish living before the dinosaurs, or “melted”, folded and cracked rocks. You’ll discover flint rocks, so precious in prehistory, and walk on the lava, ashes and lapillus from the ancient volcano in Predazzo. You’ll learn about the Green Stone enigma… and much much more.
After this excursion, nobody will ever say again that mountains are just made of stone!

in collaboration with the DOLOMITE GEOLOGICAL MUSEUM of PREDAZZO
An excursion taking you on an exciting journey back in time to discover long vanished landscapes and ecosystems: seas teeming with life, submerged mountains, tropical islands and fierce volcanoes.
Step by step, you will be led through worlds of water and fire to experience the geological history of the Dolomites at first hand and discover its mysterious hidden treasures.
These are primarily geological excursions, offering a description of the geological evolution of the Dolomites, while certain specific itineraries will also involve collecting and identifying minerals and fossils.
Complementing the geological aspect, each itinerary also offers plenty to see of particular botanical and naturalistic interest.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
- BOOKINGS: bookings to be made by telephone, calling the Dolomite Geological Museum in Predazzo:

Excursions may be cancelled at the last minute in the event of other
persons enrolled for the excursion failing to arrive.
The organisers cannot be held liable in the event of accidents
during the excursion:
participants will be requested to sign a waiver when enrolling for
excursion.
- CONFIRMATION: please confirm whether the itinerary will be held by contacting the person responsible for the activity between 5:30 and 6:00 pm the day beforehand.
- Excursions may be cancelled if the minimum number of participants is not reached, in the event of poor weather or for other unforeseen causes.
- EQUIPMENT: participants in the Dos Capèl Geological Path excursions are permitted and encouraged to bring a rock hammer and scalpel for detaching and collecting rock and fossil specimens (in compliance with the methods permitted by the provincial law for the protection of mineralogical assets, L.P. 37/1983)
- DURATION: full day excursion, from 8:00-9:00 am to approx. 4:30-5:30 pm
- LUNCH: packed lunch provided by participants
- CLOTHING: mountain boots, wind breaker and sweater
