Natural Parks

Where the majesty of nature, with its wildlife, woodlands, meadows, brooks and Alpine lakes, reigns supreme.

The Paneveggio Nature Park

The Paneveggio Nature Park is situated in an area of great contrasts, where the rose pink cliffs of the Dolomites stand out against the dark rocks and the scattered glacial lakes of the Lagorai chain and of

Parcon Naturale di Paneveggio natura in TrentinoCima Bocche and, lower down, the green forests and the meadows of the mountain dairies.

Located in the most easterly portion of Trentino, the park encompasses the forests of Paneveggio, S. Martino di Castrozza, Valsorda and Valzanca, the Dolomite group of the Pale di S. Martino, and a short but significant section of the Lagorai chain, for a total of 197 Km².

Its meandering borders, cut through at the centre by the state road from Fiera dei Primiero to Predazzo, contain a number of widely different landscapes.
These include dense Norway Spruce forests, glacial moraine scree slopes, peat bogs surrounding cirque lakes and ski lifts leading from the Rolle Pass to the trenches of the First World War to mention but a few.
In the late 1950s, the deer was reintroduced into the park to join the existing chamois and roe deer populations. Its numbers has grown strongly side then, and it is now the undisputed king Parchi Naturali del Trentino Paneveggio of the forest (with 450 heads counted in 1995).

The park visitor centre, completely renewed, is called “Terra Foresta”: it is close to the Forte Buso lake, along the road which goes from Predazzo to Rolle Pass.
It describes the history of this great forest of Norway Spruce, now known throughout the world as the Forest of Violins for the quality of its soundboard spruce, which was highly prized by the master violin makers of the past.
Near the Centre you can have a walk on the naturalistic path which offers observations spots and a big enclosure with several deers.

Geoparc Bletterbach

World heritage site.
Parchi da vivere in Trentino Geologic park of Aldino and Redagno in South Tyrol.
Geologic treasures and different landscapes show us the earth and mankind evolution from an unusual point of view.
Adventure park, learning site and natural monument: ALL IN ONE!

The GEOPARK Bletterbach offers a view into the interior of the mountains and the stones world, along the wood trail and the geologic path which leads to the Bletterbach canyon. It is the result of weathering and elements erosion.
Starting from the Ice Age, about 15.000 years ago, and during the different geologic eras, the Bletterbach has been carving its way 8 kms long and 400 mts deep.
Every single layer has come to exposure: ten billion tons of stones have been eroded and swept away to the Adige valley.
Here the stone layers are more intact and well exposed than in any other place in the Alps and their structure explains the climate and environment conditions of about 250 million of years ago.

At the visitor centre you can learn the processes which led to the rocks creation in the Bletterbach canyon Geoparc Bletterbach Canyonwhile at The Geological Museum of Redagno you can see many fossil finds such as dinosaurs footprints, fossilised fishes, shells and plants.

Among these species you can count the hawthorn, about 300 years old.
The garden can be visited during the summer at any times: the plants are labelled with their scientific names and at the tourist office of Ziano di Fiemme you can buy the handbook of the garden and its herbs.
