Val di Fiemme, internationally well known in the cross-country field, will host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships for the third time.
This valley has just gone through the warm summer but its head was in the snow.
The Organizing Committee of the Nordic World Ski Championships listened to proposals and defined projects to offer perfect sport facilities, events of international appeal and an efficient sustainable mobility.
The PalaFiemme congress centre in Cavalese, which will host the mass media, the Ski Jumping Arena in Predazzo and the Cross Country Stadium in Lago di Tesero have undergone some major restyling.
More than 60 teams coming from 5 continents will take part in the World Championships. In addition to the 36 European, 12 Asian, 3 African and 5 South American teams, there will also be athletes coming from Australia and New Zealand.
Countless shows, food tastings and games will mark the event. The soul and heart of the Championships are the 1153 enthusiastic volunteers.
Back in 1991 and 2003 Val di Fiemme had hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships. Moreover, on January 5th and 6th 2013 the Tour de Ski with its final climb on Alpe Cermis will take place for the seventh time.
Every day Fan Parades, concerts and South Nordic Festival
What increases South the interest most is the unique and rich programme of events besides the competitions.
With Fan parades in Cavalese every day, concerts, kids entertainment and shows, Val di Fiemme will be surely up to the situation.
Moreover you will enjoy some typical food tastings: speck, cold cuts, cheese, traditional desserts, Trentino spirits and wines.
There will be also about twenty revival concerts to bring to life again the era of the Beatles, the Queens and the Abba, with some tribute bands.
In addition to classical and folk music, there are scheduled two worldwide known deejay sets.
Other events are the South Nordic Festival, Fiemme Arena, Winterfest, two nights dedicated to nature and much more, without mentioning that every night there will take place the prize giving ceremony which will turn the Champions Square in Cavalese into a great party.
For the first time the Nordic World Ski Championships will be completely free from any architectural barriers.
Both the stadiums in Lago di Tesero and Predazzo have been awarded the Certificate of Accessible Fiemme, in order to guarantee access to everybody to all the competitions and events. These measures are part of a large project which involves the entire valley, where not just disabled people but also tourists and guests with allergies and food intolerances can spend a pleasant holiday in our valley. The project has been developed by the Accademia della Montagna in cooperation with local authorities and associations.
The environmental certificate UNI EN ISO 14001 obtained in 2003 will be kept in 2013 as well, aiming at organizing an environmentally low impact World Championship.
The Nordic World Ski Championship of 2013 will begin with an opening ceremony with fireworks in Trento, where international known artists like Goran Bregovic will be performing.
Goran Bregovic will compose the official anthem, combining the rhythmical and melodic tradition of the Balkans to the power of rock and jazz music.
The opening ceremony, live broadcasted by Rai, will be held in Piazza Duomo. The schedule will include several coup de theatre, like a “flying” artist playing the piano to remind the music spread in the world by the resonance fir trees of Val di Fiemme. Moreover, the history of ski and the Dolomites, Val di Fiemme and Trentino will be shown through a video by Festi studio.
