Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa
The history of Marcialonga begins like this, as the organizers themselves tell us on the site of the most loved cross-country ski track:
"(...) Marcialonga was born a little by chance and a little by bet, when four friends, Mario Cristofolini, Giulio Giovannini, Roberto Moggio and Nele Zorzi, cross-country ski lovers, participated in the most famous ski-marathon in the world, the Swedish Vasaloppet. At the end of that adventure they began to dream of a similar competition in their land, in Trentino, between the valleys of Fiemme and Fassa.
Many people were sceptic about how this event would have turned out, but thanks to perseverance and to the immediate involvement of many volunteers, on 7 February 1971 the first edition of the Marcialonga took place. "
Since then Marcialonga has grown attracting more and more participants from all over the world. The route has now been tested: starting from Moena and arriving in Cavalese after 70 km, passing through Canazei, Predazzo, Lago di Tesero and along that last climb at the “Cascata” (waterfall), which often makes a selection before arrival. Along the track, thousands of fans cheer on the skiers until the last one, which reaches the finish line at nightfall. The final reward is a bunch of... marvellous fireworks!
All day long Cavalese is animated by gastronomic stands, live tv broadcasting and merchandising by Marcialonga.
Every year athletes from all around the world come to the Marcialonga, thus representing a great moment of international sport and friendship!
