Short route to reach the rocks with the inscriptions of the shepherds of Val di Fiemme.
For many centuries, the steep slopes of the arid sides above the villages were used for grazing sheep and goats. Today, evidence of this practice remains thanks to the rock writings found on the slopes of Monte Cornon and the Pizzancae. The writings date from a period between the second half of the 1600s to beyond the middle of the last century.
THE 10 RULES FOR HIKERS
As you can imagine, the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before leaving, inform yourself about the state of the path by contacting the refuge managers along your route, alpine guides, natural park visitor centers, and tourist offices.
After parking in the widening, head onto the white/dirt road which after a few meters turns right, continuing with a steady climb. After a short flat section, you will see the sign LE SCRITTE DEI PASTORI indicating to take path no. 509. Then another sign indicates to leave the uphill path and turn right, crossing the stream. The path continues zigzagging uphill through the forest. The path then becomes relatively flat, with ups and downs at the foot of the rocky walls. The vegetation opens up and on the right below you can see the village of Ziano di Fiemme overlooked by the forests of the Lagorai Chain. Continuing along the route, you will notice on the left walls red symbols and initials, the curious writings of the shepherds. The path then descends steeply to reach the forest road. Continue to the right, reaching the junction of the path taken before and shortly after a left junction that descends directly to the parking lot.
Reach the village of Ziano di Fiemme and head towards the Valaverta farmstay. Continue along the road until you find a parking area on the right.
