A route that takes us face to face with the "òmeni de Segonzan", a rare and fascinating geological phenomenon
This route takes us to discover one of the most fascinating geological phenomena of Trentino: the earth pyramids of Segonzano, spectacular “natural sculptures” created by the washing away of rainwater on ancient deposits of materials left by glaciers. When one of the porphyry boulders contained in the deposits is exposed due to erosion, it may act as a “roof” protecting the material underneath from the beating rain, thus giving rise to the most unique type of pyramid, the one with the “hat”. The possible fall of the stone condemns the pyramid to rapid destruction. The Pyramids, locally called the òmeni (men) de Segonzan, are therefore an ephemeral phenomenon.

Starting from the square of the Ristobar Chiosco alle Piramidi, the path rises steeply. At the first fork just above the kiosk, turn right following the path along which you will find some observation points of the pyramids. Continuing, you reach an asphalt road which you descend towards the hamlets of Luch and Stedro. In Stedro, follow the country road and then the path back to the starting point, not before taking a detour to the viewpoint from which you can admire the tallest pyramids seen from below.
For those coming from Trento, follow the SP71 northward, and after passing the junction for Faver-Cembra, park at the Chiosco delle Piramidi square on the right.
For those coming from Val di Fiemme, follow the SP71 southward, and after passing the hamlet of Scancio, turn left to park in the Chiosco alle Piramidi square.
Free parking at the “Chiosco alle Piramidi” before reaching Scancio for those coming from Trento or just after Scancio for those coming from Cavalese.
