From the village of Capriana to the Avisio stream along the paths leading to ancient and lively rural farmhouses
From the center of the village of Capriana we head towards the locality of Cao de Villa to enter the itinerary called “Botanical-naturalistic path” (Lago Santo - Prà del Manz), which crosses very different natural environments: fields, woods, rock debris, meadows rich in species, including many medicinal plants.
Keeping to the left, we descend to the state road, cross it and continue the descent along the path on the left in the woods. We will meet the ruins of an ancient mill, then, after crossing a small stream, the path forks with a track to the right descending towards the valley up to the beautiful fishermen’s bivouac. From here, in a few minutes we can take a short detour from the route to descend to the Avisio stream, to a long floodplain and a wooded meander closed by vertical rocks and a sandy bottom, dotted with traces of birds, mammals, insects.
From the fishermen’s bivouac begins the ascent leading to Maso Conti: one of the houses of the ancient farmhouse was renovated in recent years by Julia and Stefano, who have created an organic farm here that also hosts a small cheese dairy.
We continue up the steep climb to Maso Doss, another historic settlement still inhabited, where we also find another interesting farm managed by the Corradi family that produces saffron, honey, and vegetables. We proceed until we reach the state road, cross it, and resume climbing on the opposite side until rejoining the botanical path from the outbound journey and then return back to Capriana.
Although the route does not present particular technical difficulties nor dangerous sections, we always recommend respecting the general safety rules for mountain hikes.
