A 3-day hike through silent forests and precious the nature reserves of the upper Cembra valley and the Monte Corno nature park

The hike described here takes you to unusual, special places. Not to rocky spires or pristine peaks but something much smaller scale and perhaps less stunning but every bit as precious. The trip is 3 days long, during which time you will be surrounded by the forests separating the Adige and Cembra valleys at all times, in an area which straddled two worlds as far back as Roman times and in which you come across evidence of the area’s past and present.

First of all, the peat bogs, ancient glacial origin lakes in which peat has progressively reduced the water surface, generating a habitat which is incredibly positive in biodiversity terms. And on top of these, there are hunting huts, mills and border posts testifying to long forgotten events.

The route begins in Pochi di Salorno in the Adige valley and climbs up to Dossone di Cembra, following the whole of the ridge in a pleasant up and down route as far as Rifugio Malga Monte Corno, before descending to Cauria and returning to Pochi di Salorno.

The best time to do it is in autumn, when the Cembra valley woods are at their most attractive.

The route is 44 kilometres long and is divided up into three stages:

Stage 1. from Pochi di Salorno to Rifugio Potzmauer

Stage 2. from Rifugio Potzmauer to Rifugio Malga Corno

Stage 3. from Rifugio Malga Corno to Pochi di Salorno
