This 4-day loop trek is a very versatile proposal as it allows you to choose between several variants of different difficulty. This is why it can be tackled by both those approaching the multi-day trek for the first time and those who are already experienced.

The track on the map presents the most demanding route. The MEDIUM and EASY variants are described in each stage in the TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTIONS section.

The route offers spectacular views of the Lagorai chain and the Pale di San Martino. Along the entire route there are refuges and refreshment points where it is possible to take a break, eat, and spend the night. The route leads to the discovery of some little-known routes, among Alpine lakes and trenches from the Great War, a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the nature and history of the Fiemme Valley. After the first two days dedicated to the exploration of Alpe Lusia, amidst paths characterised by a great variety of rocks and porphyry outcrops, and with the Dolomites as a backdrop, on the third and fourth days you will literally immerse yourself in the beauty of the Pale di San Martino, with their soaring spires and picture postcard landscapes.

Almost the entire route runs through the territory of the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Nature Park, a protected area since 1967.

Starting point
Bellamonte - Castelir
Directions

DEMANDING ROUTE: from Castelir (Bellamonte) walk along the forest road that climbs up below the cableway line. At a crossroads at an altitude of 1,685 metres, turn left to reach Rio Vallaccia. You ignore the asphalt/cement road and continue left until you reach path no. 660, which you take by climbing to the right. The path first climbs in an environment rich in water (which is noticeable from the particular vegetation) and then through alpine pastures and old wooden huts until it reaches Rifugio Lusia. (4.7 km - 550 metres of ascent - 53 metres of descent)

Rifugio Lusia - Tel. +39 333 1951380 - info@rifugiolusia.com - www.rifugiolusia.com

For those who still have energy and time, we suggest reaching Cima Viezzena, which offers a 360° view of numerous Dolomite peaks and the Lagorai chain. From Rifugio Lusia it is 2.6 km (one way) and 450 metres of ascent.

MEDIUM ROUTE: longer route compared to the demanding variant, but with a gentler ascent. From the car park in Castelir, take the forest road that climbs up behind the El Zirmo restaurant and winds its way through a sparse forest of larches and spruces with a few wooden huts. You reach a clearing and then Canvere, with some beautiful, recently renovated wooden huts. From here, turn left onto forest road no. 623, which leads gently and steadily uphill through flower-filled pastures to Rifugio Lusia. (5.8 km - 500 metres of ascent)

Rifugio Lusia - Tel. +39 333 1951380 - info@rifugiolusia.com - www.rifugiolusia.com

EASY ROUTE: take the 2 sections of the Bellamonte 3.0 cableway up to the top (check opening dates and times Tel +39 0462 576234). From the arrival point, take the little road behind Chalet 44 until you reach forest road and path no. 623. Take it to the left in the direction of Rifugio Lusia. (1.8 km - 90 metres of ascent).

Rifugio Lusia - Tel. +39 333 1951380 - info@rifugiolusia.com - www.rifugiolusia.com

We suggest reaching the Lusia Pass (behind the refuge of the same name) to admire the view of the Catinaccio/Rosengarten.
