A climb up to the precious peat bog of Lac del Vedes, a natural place of incredible beauty and rarity
The route takes us to the Dossone di Cembra where some of the most beautiful and precious peat bogs of Trentino are located: ancient glacial origin lakes where, by a natural process, thick layers of peat have accumulated. In the peat bog there is a unique vegetation, formed by carpets of very particular mosses and by very rare small marsh plants. The Lac del Vedes in Grumes is surely one of the most beautiful and best preserved peat bogs in Trentino. Here, a visitor route with wooden boardwalks and educational panels explains the rarities present and how a peat bog is formed.

Our route starts from the square in Grumes. From here, it goes up towards the church and then, after crossing the SS 612, towards the Masi di Grumes. After passing the industrial area, follow the path to Baita Penna Nera and then the signs for Valdonega.
Continue uphill on a cobbled road until reaching the Valdonega meadows, an area with characteristic mountain huts. At the small shrine follow the signs for Lac del Vedes. Once at the peat bog, a wooden boardwalk allows us to observe the characteristics of this environment up close. Continuing along the path bordering it on the right, we find a beautiful panoramic point. From here we continue following the forest trail that runs alongside a small stream and leads to intersect a forest road that reaches the Cima pass. If we decide to descend to the Potzmauer refuge, just follow the signs from the pass heading towards Val d'Adige. If instead, we want to return immediately to the starting point, we must follow the signs for the Masi di Grumes - Grumes (SAT path 480).
