The first stage of a long-distance path (6 recommended stages) to slowly discover the Cembra Valley

The Cammino delle Terre Sospese is a 90 km path that connects villages, hamlets, and farms of the Val di Cembra that seem suspended in time, to encounter the genuine identity of this valley far from tourist circuits. Following this route, you will cross the valley, going from the right to the left bank, crossing several times the Avisio stream, the undisputed protagonist of this fascinating path. You will discover a richness and diversity of natural and cultural landscapes that will surprise you: districts, faces, and ancient fountains in small villages, terraced vineyards supported by daring dry stone walls, medieval chapels, castles and historic connecting roads, small farms and ancient rural houses, mills, forges, sawmills… and then streams and silent woods. The Cammino delle Terre Sospese is not only a physical route but an important community project, promoted by a spontaneous group of volunteers who founded the association Destinazione Val di Cembra ETS, to encourage people to meet and discuss more sustainable development of their territory, strengthening the spirit of an active and welcoming community. For this reason, we wish you a route full of meetings and relationships.

Before setting off, consult the Cammino website, download the track, pack your backpack with water and what you need to face the daily stages. In case of emergency remember that the number to call immediately is 112.

Starting point
Lavis (Giardino dei Ciucioi)
Directions
Arriving in the village of Lavis, we head towards the Giardino dei Ciucioi to collect the credential by walking along via 4 Novembre until reaching piazza Loreto and turning left into Vicolo dei Ciucioi. Those who wish may visit the site freely or with a guide (checking cost and opening hours in advance). In this case, they will find directions to reach the trail from inside the Garden. Otherwise, once the credential is collected, return to piazza Loreto. Turn left following the signs towards Doss del Paion until crossing the internal exit path from the Giardino dei Ciucioi. A path going uphill, through a wooded environment, will take us to the summit of the Dosso (351 m). From here, continue following the indication for Maso Franch. Leaving Maso behind, follow the indication that leads through the first vineyards of the Cembra Valley, towards a mandatory crossing of the SS 612 beyond which you reach an ascent called the “strada delle careghe” that crosses fields and wooded areas ending with a short downhill stretch on asphalt. Then there is the left turn indication for the chapel of San Giorgio which, if open, is worth a visit. Continue on a comfortable road called ”Il sentiero della Rosa” that leads to the village of Palù di Giovo. After leaving this, reach Verla di Giovo following the signs for the historic center. Cross it until reaching via dell’Oratorio which you walk along entirely. Continue along via del Grec, cross the SP 131 del vino and, going through a wooded uphill section, reach the chapel of San Floriano (670 m). Two panoramic points offering a suggestive view of the valley are worth a stop. Descend through the woods towards Ceola. Upon reaching the village, cross again the SS 612 to enter the fields below and, walking almost exclusively on paved farm roads, arrive at Maso Spedenal. After reaching the lowest point, cross the Rio Ischiele. Then face a steep climb leading to the precious chapel of San Leonardo. This chapel is worth a visit, as is the panoramic view of the valley. Leaving this site, face the last climb to reach the village of Lisignago, end of the first stage.
