Descent to the medieval Castle of Segonzano and the banks of the Avisio among stones of a thousand colors

Our route starts from the hamlet of Scancio, near Hotel Piramidi, and descends to the quaint hamlet of Saletto, then continues on country roads to the ruins of Segonzano Castle, located on a rocky height overlooking the historic Cantilaga Bridge. The Castle, mentioned in documents from 1216, was severely damaged in 1796 by Napoleonic troops during the Battle of Segonzano.

Heading south along country roads, you reach the nearby chapel of Saint Anthony: on the southern façade, bullet marks from the French army are still visible. From the chapel, descend into the historic center of the village of Piazzo, where the small church of the Immaculate Conception, with its valuable frescoes, is worth a visit. Cross the village and, upon reaching the Piazzo cemetery, continue north to the historic Cantilaga Bridge. Just upstream you encounter the small settlement of Prà, where the Folgheràiter Mill once stood (active until the 1950s), whose ruins are visible just outside the settlement.

Continuing along a comfortable and cool path, you reach a spectacular rocky gorge where the Avisio stream has formed a bend of calm water, a natural pool with beautiful blue-green colors. Along the rock wall overlooking the water, a climbing gym has been set up.

From near the suspension bridge, a path climbs through the undergrowth to the east, where it joins a forest road leading to the hamlet of Teaio, located on a promontory with splendid views of the valley. Continue along the country road to return to the starting point of Segonzano.

Those who follow this route must do so with the calmness of a traveler who pauses to observe what surrounds them. Upon reaching the Cantilaga Bridge, continue the path (without crossing the bridge) towards the hamlet of Prà and then venture into the countryside and the river environment of the Avisio.

The hamlet of Piazzo is worth a visit, with its very narrow streets and the beautiful painted church.
