During World War I, the Val di Sadole served as a rear area for the Austro-Hungarian troops, who stationed the Standeschützen companies here, while the Italian troops carried out fierce attacks to conquer Mount Cauriol. The peak was captured by the Italian Alpini on August 27, 1915, after very hard fighting, making the valley an important passage and rescue point for both sides.
