A production Puntodoc
France, 1943. Bruno is a simple soldier of the Royal Italian Army when the armistice catches him by surprise, leaving him and thousands of Italian soldiers alone, abandoned in the face of the consequences of the collapse of the fascist regime and the Italian State.
Displaced as a soldier, citizen, man, from that moment, his life becomes a continuous search for goals: familial, work-related, emotional. Until one day everything seems to find a harbor thanks to a job: the miner; a place, Belgium; and a woman, Marcella.
Nonconformist and passionate, Marcella is a free woman and in the rigid post-war Trentino society, there is no room for those who love to sing and live outside the norms. In Bruno, she recognizes a companion and a horizon. She reaches out to him, ready to build a new life together.
This is the story of their dream
The project White as Coal was born with the intention of bringing together different professional skills and disciplines to revisit, in a new and original way, the themes of Trentino (and Italian) emigration to Belgium from 1946 (the year of the well-known bilateral treaties between Italy and Belgium on coal) onwards.
