Everything begins with a white cloud, observed from two opposite perspectives. For a daughter, it is a sign of beauty; for her father, a mathematician and scholar of complex phenomena, it is the image of a world that eludes all predictions. The two resemble each other but struggle to understand one another, until an unexpected event forces them to face a difficult choice and seek a common ground in their relationship.
Complexity weaves a family story with the themes of the science of complex systems and the Game of Life. The show starts from simple phenomena that, when they interact, can produce unpredictable collective behaviors: from natural and social dynamics to individual decisions. Through the relationship between father and daughter, the dramaturgy questions our trust in the possibility of understanding and controlling reality and interrogates the boundary between determinism, free will, and responsibility. Theatre and scientific content meet in an accessible narrative that does not require technical expertise but curiosity about the mechanisms that govern the world and human relationships.
Dramaturgy by Andrea Brunello, featuring Maria Vittoria Barrella and Andrea Brunello. Direction: Manfredi Rutelli and Michela Marelli. Original music: Carlo Casillo. Video: Tommaso Rosi. Scenography: Tessa Battisti. Technical Direction: Giacomo Gottardi.
