The Society of Rebels is the new production of the Pequod company. The project starts from a historical fact: in 1871 in Paris, citizens found La Commune de Paris. After the defeat inflicted on France by Bismarck's Prussia, the Parisians refuse to sign a peace that would gut the country and decide to self-govern. For three months, one of the most utopian governments in history is established in Paris: equality, rights, secularism, subsidies, active citizenship, integration of immigrants, feminism... are just some of the words that resonate in the Parisian streets. Three months of utopia extinguished in a fierce and ruthless massacre that will go down in history as the Semaine sanglante (bloody week), which will realign the normal advancement of capitalism.
Deeply fascinated by stories of history that tell us about (im)possible crossroads, spontaneous revolutions, inventions, brotherhoods, and sisterhoods, The Society of Rebels encapsulates the possibility of attempting to retrace a path, a flame not yet extinguished (perhaps).
