In 2025, the 90th anniversary of the collapse of the Molare dam, in the province of Alessandria, will be observed, which occurred on August 13, 1935. Following a massive rainy wave – about 30% of the annual precipitation in just a few hours – the auxiliary dam of Sella Zerbino gave way, causing a terrifying front of water and mud estimated between 20 and 30 million cubic meters. The disaster, also known as "the Vajont of Piedmont", struck the Orba valley, overwhelming entire towns like Molare, Ovada, Silvano d’Orba, Capriata d’Orba, Predosa, and Castellazzo, causing the death or disappearance of 111 people.
This year, the 90th anniversary of the Molare disaster coincides with the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Stava tragedy, creating a commemorative framework that unites memory and historical awareness, not only locally but nationally.
