The Church was consecrated in 1193 by the bishop of Trento, Corrado II. After various expansions over the years, it was substantially rebuilt in 1925-26.
On the entrance door, there is a lunette depicting the Madonna with Child, a work by the painter Camillo Rasmo, while above is the figure of San Nicolò.
The massive bell tower from 1572 had a Gothic spire that was never rebuilt after the severe damage caused by a lightning strike. What remains is the current structure with four gables, truncated at the base of the spire.
This and much more will be told by art historian Damiano Iellici, immersing us in the extraordinary world of artistic and architectural works in our Magnificent Valley.
Meeting place: San Nicolò Church in Carano - Ville di Fiemme, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
