The route leads through the dense woods of the Cembra Valley on comfortable forest roads and stretches of enjoyable path.
The absence of traffic, the presence of panoramic stretches on the Adige valley, the possibility of refreshment in the two refuges, and the presence of the Santo Lake make it an unmissable destination. Ideal in spring-summer, splendid in autumn with its explosion of colors.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SUSTAINABLE BIKING
ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!
From the splendid lake mirror of Santo Lake, served by the homonymous refuge (typical restaurant with beds), you descend along the asphalt road that leads towards Cembra until you find a forest road (sign indicating "forest hut Zise") which, with an easy and short ascent, first leads to the forest hut (fountain), and then to the locality Zise. From here you continue along the European path E5 heading north (Cauria). The road, with a good surface, now becomes very panoramic offering excellent views of the underlying Adige valley and the Sarntal mountains. Upon reaching the proximity of a short climb, the route continues with a fun path that with some easy ups and downs leads to the beautiful basin where the Potzmauer refuge is located. From the refuge, you quickly reach the Potzmauer pass where, following the existing signage, you descend towards Valda. After a quick descent on a forest road with excellent surface, a steep climb (signs for Valda lake) partially paved quickly regains altitude until you reach near the Valda lake biotope where a long descent of about 4 km begins. You ignore the junction with the Zise/Lago Santo sign and continue instead towards Ponciach. At the next junction, along the cobbled road that goes down to the valley, you start to climb again reaching the idyllic meadows dotted with huts in the locality Vegiose from where with the last short descent you return again to the starting point near the Lago Santo refuge.
