A walk in the woods along the Botanical Naturalistic Path between Grauno and Capriana with insights dedicated to the surrounding environment
The route starts from the small village of Grauno, known for its ancient Carnival ritual culminating in the burning of a large pine, and reaches Capriana, in the Fiemme Valley.
Before entering the woods, it is worth visiting the charming village of Grauno where you can get lost among the steep streets of the village, the “frone,” and the large historic fountains in the clearings between the houses. Grauno is also the birthplace of Father Atanasio Cristofori (1885-1961), the herb friar and author of the book Plants and Medicinal Herbs of our Trentino Region (Ardesi, Trento 1931), dedicated to the medicinal uses of spontaneous plants: along the route and near the village there are some information panels dedicated to him.
The itinerary, simple and marked, not only with directional arrows but also with naturalistic information panels, starts near the church dedicated to the patron Saint Martin. Leaving the church on the right, after about a hundred meters uphill on a paved mule track, we take a flat forest road that crosses mixed pine and chestnut woods and offers interesting panoramic views of the valley. Our path leads us to the village of Capriana, surrounded by meadows rich in flowers.
We recommend stopping for a visit to Capriana, following the interesting historical route that, through panels placed in the most significant places in the village, shows beautiful vintage photos and captions full of information and curiosities.
The return to Grauno takes place following the SAT 481 trail that climbs (+300 meters approx.) to the Fontana D'Ao Forest Refuge and then goes down again towards Grauno.
