According to tradition, the church was consecrated in 1216 on August 24, the feast of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle. It underwent various enlargements over the years until 1528. In 1861 a furious fire destroyed it along with 52 houses in Capriana. The new church, as we know it today, was rebuilt in the years 1866-69. The interior consists of a central hall and two narrow side aisles. The ceiling, divided into three half-dome bays, is frescoed by the well-known Trentino artist Metodio Ottolini (1882-1958).
The bell tower has an onion cover and is detached from the body of the church.

In the middle of the right aisle is the plaque in memory of Domenica Lazzeri, called "Meneghina". On Sunday she died at the age of 33 as a blessed, after for many years she was forced into bed by an inexplicable infirmity to which various bodily phenomena were connected that recalled the sufferings of the Passion of Christ.
