Set off at dusk, snowshoes on your feet and take a beautiful hike on a well-trodden path surrounded by nature. Arrive by moonlight at the Potzmauer Hut and taste traditional dishes accompanied by the best local wines.

The route through silver fir, spruce and Scots pine forests leads to the Potzmauer Hut, a hut nestling in a basin of meadows surrounded by fir forests. It is a stopping point for both eating and spending the night and also an intermediate point for longer hikes to interesting places such as the peat bogs of Lac del Vedes or Lago di Valda or to Lago Santo.

Remember, snowpack stability is subject to sudden and unforeseeable changes and shifts. Always check the local avalanche before departure and make sure you gather all possible information concerning current conditions from the local Mountain Guides. GPS tracks are merely indicative of the more standard routes but must not be followed blindly without first checking current slope and terrain conditions. Correct orientation may be a problem at times along the higher stretches of this route due to fog or low cloud cover.

Starting point

Masi di Grumes - Pradet locality

Directions

The starting point of this itinerary is in Pradet locality, in Masi Alti di Grumes (Altavalle municipality). There's a square where you can park the car. To reach Potzmauer follow the SAT path n° 480 or the parallel forest road that conduces at Passo della Cima and then in few minutes down to Potzmauer mountain hut.

Return back along the same route.

How to get there

For those coming from Trento, follow the SS.612 Once in arrived in Grumes follow the signs for Masi di Grumes, then for Masi Alti. The car park is located immediately after Maso Giovanni. For those coming from Val di Fiemme, follow the SS 612 southwards to Grumes. Go past the entrance to the town and at the traffic lights turn right following the signs for Masi di Grumes, then for Masi Alti. The car park is located immediately after Maso Giovanni.
