A route with a slight difference in altitude on an asphalt and dirt road offering glimpses of the terraced vineyards of the Cembra Valley.

The route allows visitors to discover a typical Cembra Valley village characterised by the square with its fountain and historic wash-house and some examples of rural houses with barrel vaults and family wine cellars.

It runs along part of the ancient Strada della Rosa, the road that pilgrims and wayfarers travelled in the past to reach the village of Ville di Giovo with Castel Giovo starting from the Adige plain. The stately castle is also called 'della Rosa' (of the Rose) due to the presence of the coat of arms engraved with a rose on the guard tower.

The route alternates between forest and vineyards with rest stops along the way. It reaches the small Church of San Giorgio in the hamlet of Mosana di Giovo, already recorded as a hermitage in 1369. Rebuilt in the 15th century, it was the destination of processions to invoke protection for the fields from frost, frost and wrinkles. The polygonal apse retains two Gothic sandstone windows, while traces of a large Last Supper fresco can be seen on the southern wall. Giambattista Ghezzi from Faedo was the last hermit of San Giorgio. The hermitage was suppressed by the law issued by Joseph II in 1782.

Starting point
Palù di Giovo - sports Hall
Directions

The route starts at Palù di Giovo - Palazzetto dello Sport, crosses the village to reach Piazza degli Alpini and takes the road that descends from the fountain downwards and leads out of the village.

Follow the same road through the woods for about twenty minutes on foot until it opens out onto the terraced vineyards, the Avisio river and the porphyry quarries that characterise the other side of Valle di Cembra. After about fifty metres at the crossroads, take the road to the church of San Giorgio, a pretty little country church.

Continue until the dirt road intersects with the tarmac road that leads to the Masi tour. Take it downwards until you reach the main road 612.

At that point, taking care, it is necessary to follow a small stretch of asphalt road (approx. 100 m) alongside the road in the direction of Mosana di Giovo (entering the Cembra Valley). After a short distance, an asphalt road will appear on the left, which climbs up and through cultivated fields.

Take this road and follow the slight rise that leads back to the crossroads for the church of San Giorgio. Once at the crossroads, follow the outward route backwards.
