A comfortable walk to the beautiful little church of San Leonardo among bold vineyard terraces and rural farmhouses
On a rocky hill overlooking the Avisio, just downstream of the town of Lisignago, stands the isolated and enchanting church of San Leonardo, rebuilt in Gothic style in the fifteenth century but of older origin: according to legend, under its floor there is a cellar, the remains of an ancient castle. Inside you can admire extraordinary frescoes from the second half of the fifteenth century, while in the bell tower is kept one of the oldest bells of the entire valley.
The route starts from the Church of San Biagio, in the center of the town of Lisignago. From the parking behind the Church, you descend along country roads following the signs for the Church of San Leonardo. You then climb the hill on which the small church stands, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the valley, also thanks to a panoramic viewpoint equipped with tables and benches.
Returning to the foot of the hill, we descend again into the countryside following the road on the south side of the promontory, which immediately passes between two small farmhouses. The road descends until it reaches the Ischiele stream in a cool small valley. From there you start to climb and after a few hundred meters you turn right following the road that enters the woods. You continue along the road in the woods progressively climbing to emerge again in the vineyards and reach the Maso Spedenal, a large farmhouse that seems to have served as a hostel as well as a control point for the fields. Shortly after the farmhouse, continue and then turn right at the fork, thus following the fairly flat country road that brings us back towards Lisignago.
Although the route does not present particular technical difficulties or dangerous sections, we always recommend respecting the general safety rules for mountain excursions.
