High altitude hike to Malga Monte Corno and the peat bogs of Lago Nero and Lago Bianco

The route climbs from Prà del Manz, one of the most beautiful larch pastures in Trentino, following the signposts for Malga Corno and La Peschiera and the SAT trail 482, which takes us to Rifugio Malga Monte Corno. The malga is located at an altitude of 1,715 m and offers a vast panorama of the mountains of the Valle di Fiemme, from Corno Bianco and Corno Nero to the Pale di San Martino and the Lagorai Chain. Sitting on the large terrace, you can enjoy typical Alto Adige dishes and delicious desserts. In the summer period, it is also possible to stay overnight (the malga has a dormitory with nine beds).

Near the malga, our route continues following the signposts (trail number 3) for Lago Nero and Lago Bianco, two precious peat bogs and protected areas of the Val di Cembra Avisio Reserve Network and the Monte Corno Park. The peat bogs are ancient glacial lakes where, through a natural process, thick layers of peat produced by aquatic plants have accumulated over millennia. Much of their surface is therefore covered by marsh vegetation and characterized by the presence of a small water basin. These peat bogs are part of a valuable environmental and forest context and are biotopes of vital importance for the reproduction of many species of amphibians and reptiles.

Our route completes a loop descending towards the valley from Lago Bianco, following trails number 3B and 483. Following the signs for Monte Gua and Prà del Manz, you return to the starting point of our itinerary.
