CASA PORFIDO aims at documenting, giving value and popularizing the various skills involved in the quarrying of porphyry.
One of the striking characteristics of this museum is the harmony between tradition and ultra-modern multimedia tools. In an interactive setting, visitors can discover at first hand the ancient history of porphyry quarrying and learn more about he local socio-economic fabric.
They can also watch historical films/documentaries and marvel at the age-old skill of porphyry stone cutting as well as at the incredible amount of precision required when laying porphyry.
For over a hundred years, the valley has been dedicated to the extraction of porphyry, a stone used in urban furniture appreciated for its great resistance.
The inhabitants of the area have made it one of their main sources of livelihood. The pride in this unique and precious product, along with the value recognized by the territory of the Valle di Cembra for this activity, is the basis for the idea of creating the first PORPHYRY AND URBAN FURNITURE MUSEUM in the world.
CASA PORFIDO aims to document, enhance, and communicate to the wider public the activities related to the extraction of porphyry. The coexistence of tradition and cutting-edge multimedia tools characterizes this museum. The visitor, placed in an interactive context, has the opportunity to closely discover the ancient history of porphyry and the socio-economic environment of the extraction area, historical films/documentaries, the ancient processing technique, and the highly precise art of the porphyry setter, as well as hundreds of images distinguished by geographical areas, documenting the most significant works of urban furniture made with this stone.
