The route is located behind the hamlet of Solaiolo, inside the Monte Corno Natural Park, and is like a kind of climb as it develops almost entirely uphill, alternating with short flat sections.

The itinerary, besides being located in a heterogeneous forest composed of Norway spruces, birches, larches, some white spruces, and some Scots pines, features breathtaking climbs, safely passable thanks to the 4x4 wheelchair. Midway along the route is the Palù Longa biotope, a pond where at the beginning of July it is possible to observe wonderful water lilies. After overcoming the last climb, the view stretches over the numerous peaks of the Lagorai Chain. To know their names, we recommend consulting the board located near the hut.

The Palù Longa biotope, protected since 1987, hosts a very rich flora with over 120 different plant species, including two species of carnivorous plants: Drosera rotundifolia and Drosera intermedia.

Safety guidelines

We recommend closely observing the terrain and the various small obstacles.

The route should be undertaken with a companion.

THE 10 RULES FOR HIKERS

  1. Study and prepare your itinerary well
  2. Choose a route suitable for your physical condition
  3. Bring appropriate clothing and equipment
  4. Check the weather forecast
  5. Starting alone is risky, bring your mobile phone
  6. Leave information about your itinerary and approximate return time
  7. If unsure, do not hesitate to rely on a professional
  8. Pay attention to the signs and markings along the route
  9. In case of fatigue or problems, don't hesitate to retrace your steps
  10. In case of an accident, call 112

As you can imagine, the passability of itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before leaving, check the status of the route by contacting the manager of the shelters on your route, the mountain guides, visitor centers of natural parks, and tourist offices.

Starting point
Solaiolo
Directions

From the parking lot, the first climb is already visible (maximum gradient 18%), after which you can see a small stream on the left. Next, you face the second climb (maximum gradient 16%), longer than the previous one. The road surface is unpaved but compact, and the 4x4 wheelchair proceeds without any difficulty. Upon reaching the flat area, after a short stretch, you can see on the left a small gravel-covered path leading to the shores of the Palù Longa Biotope pond. There is a small pier here (not accessible to wheelchairs), but the pond and the water lilies are visible from the shore.

Back on the main road, a little further on, near a small stone house, we recommend reading the information about local flora and fauna posted on the informative boards near the fence. Ignore the road on the left and continue straight towards the third and most challenging climb (maximum gradient 18%) which requires a bit of attention. Upon reaching the flat area, on the right begins the large meadow, on the top of which stands the hut called “Le Malghette”. The cobblestone road starting on the right is passable with the 4x4 wheelchair (maximum gradient 20%), alternatively continue on the dirt road and then turn right following the signs.

Arriving at the hut, we recommend enjoying the typical dishes and consulting the information panel with the names of all the peaks on the horizon.

For the first part of the return, we suggest following the dirt road (instead of the cobblestone one). Also, we invite you to pay attention to the small channels on the first descent.

How to get there

From San Lugano Pass head towards Anterivo. At a hairpin bend, take the road to the right following the signs for Solaiolo and Malghette. The road, initially paved, then becomes unpaved and narrower. Continue until you find the "no entry" sign where parking is possible.

Where to park

Small clearing located at the no-entry sign.

Only with a 4x4 wheelchair. Click here to rent the Magic Mobility Extreme, an electric off-road wheelchair to easily and safely tackle every type of terrain and overcome small obstacles.
